Cellulite

Description

Cellulite is often called “orange-peel skin” or “dimpled skin” and is a common aesthetic concern in women of all ages.

It is typically seen on the upper legs and buttocks. Cellulite is the accumulation of fat deposits under the skin which is connected to water retention and weakness of connective tissue due to hereditary, hormonal and aging factors.  Loss of tone, firmness and elasticity of the skin makes cellulite appear even worse.  Cellulite occurs in almost every woman and starts as early as in their 20’s. Cellulite is rarely seen in men since their connective tissue is not oriented in a patchwork-quilt fashion, as it is in women.

Are There Different Stages of Cellulite?
There are three stages of cellulite and it is very important to determine the stage or form of cellulite in order to treat it successfully.

STAGE ONE: Slight, firm form of cellulite, it is also called "fatty" cellulite.
STAGE TWO: Moderate, jiggly form of cellulite, it is also called "Watery" cellulite.
STAGE THREE: Severe, leathery form of cellulite, it is also called "fibrous" cellulite.

What's New in Cellulite Treatments?
In the past few years, there has been much research and advancements in cellulite treatments.  Cellulite has even become one of the "hot topics" in medical technology conferences and spa conferences since treatments are finally starting to improve.

There are now several options available to treat cellulite.  A decade ago, there were very few options and many of the treatments did not seem to make a significant difference so of course, women got frustrated and skeptical.  The reason they did not work is likely that all the culprits of cellulite were not all simultaneously being addressed.

We now know that for any cellulite treatment to be effective, the treatment must address three main culprits, ie. water retention, laxity of connective tissue, and fat deposition.  The treatments offered at Glow Medi Spa target all three culprits to achieve the best results possible.

Which Treatments are Recommended for Cellulite?
We recommend that a combination approach can achieve the best results. In addition to the Anti-cellulite Body Wraps, which detoxify skin cells, activate fat breakdown, improve metabolism, and improve the appearance of cellulite, we also recommend the following:

1)  At-home cellulite creams and serums which generally contain caffeine (to increase cellular metabolism), along with other active ingredients to address all the culprits of cellulite
2)  Non-invasive radio-frequency treatments to shrink fat cells, tighten and tone the skin, and strengthen the connective tissue
3)  Nutricosmetics (oral supplements) to improve lymphatic drainage
4)  Exercise, proper diet and home care regimen are strongly recommended

Are the Treatments Really Effective for Cellulite?
Yes, they do work but it  takes multiple treatments and results are not immediate and not perfect.  A combination approach actually seems to work best. Unfortunately, there is still no "cure" for cellulite and results are not permanent but at least we can help improve the appearance of cellulite so that you can feel more confident about your appearance.

Cellulite generally develops over time and cannot be treated overnight with just one treatment.  A series of treatments are usually recommended and maintenance treatments may be required.  It is therefore important to start taking the necessary measures as early as possible for optimal results.
