What is Botox and How Does it Reduce Underarm Sweating?

Botox is a prescription drug that is strictly regulated by Health Canada. The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario mandates that each patient be assessed by a qualified, licensed physician prior to injection of Botox.

Hyperhidrosis is defined as excessive sweating, more than is required for the body to maintain optimal temperature. Many sufferers are aware of how their daily lives are affected, personally, emotionally and professionally.

Botox works by interrupting the signal from the nerve to the sweat gland so that the sweat gland stops producing excessive sweat.  Significant reduction in sweating occurs within a few days usually and the average treatment lasts about seven months.  The physician injects the recommended dosage of Botox in the underarm area with tiny needles.  The treatment is generally well-tolerated and does not require any anaesthetics.
