It is a good rule to have your skin reassessed by your skin care professional every season.
Winter is here and so is the season of dry, flaky skin. You may need to make adjustments to your skin care regime. For instance, a more hydrating moisturizer may be needed in the day and/or night to provide that extra care. In addition, exfoliating the skin may be recommended. A mild exfoliating, skin care product or skin care treatment (eg. Chemical peel or microdermabrasion) can help remove that dry, dead superficial skin that creates that dull, grey appearance. Removing that dead layer will allow your skin to “breathe”. Your skin will look and feel more vibrant and healthy.
Hydration is so important for all skin types. Clients with oily or acne-prone skin also get dry during the winter. However, they often are reluctant to use added moisturizers for fear of getting too oily. Keep in mind that if the skin gets dry, the body will try to compensate by producing more oils in the oil glands and that can set up a vicious cycle of dry-oily-acne skin. Your skin care professional can make appropriate suggestions for hydrating your skin while still minimizing your break-outs.
