Laser Vein Treatments

Complimentary Consultation

'What is Laser Vein Treatment?"

Laser vein treatment uses infrared laser energy to constrict (shrink) or improve visible vessels, spider veins, broken capillaries and vascular lesions.

"How does it work?"

The infrared laser technology uses heat to eliminate the unwanted vessels.

"How long does a treatment take?"

Our laser vein treatment sessions take about 15 to 30 minutes.

"How many treatments will I need?"

Everyone responds differently. Usually it takes about 1 to 3 treatments.

Will it take away my veins completely?

The vessels that respond well are the ones that have more color and are more visible.  We recommend only sclerotherapy for the reticular veins (the blue veins that feed the red/purple spider veins).

Is laser vein treatment better than sclerotherapy?

Usually not.  It depends on the skill level of the injector.  An experienced injector can achieve excellent results with sclerotherapy (injecting a small amount of a salt and sugar solution into the veins to close the veins) and with minimal discomfort.  At glow Medi Spa, we also do sclerotherapy and we will assess you to see which treatment is most appropriate for you.

How long will it take to recover?

You may have some mild erythema (redness) and swelling in the area for about 2 days.  We recommend icing the area and keeping it cool throughout the day. Your veins may initially look darker for up to 3 weeks and then fade.

Does it hurt?

During the treatment you may feel some discomfort. It does feel similar to a hot pin-prick. Most people find that it is tolerable. If you wish you may take some Tylenol 20 minutes prior to the treatment.

What are the side effects?

There is a chance that you can blister. Polysporin cream is highly recommended if a blister develops. If the blister is not treated properly there is also a chance of scarring.

What areas can be treated?

Anywhere on the body where there are visible vascular lesions such as the face, legs, arms, stomach etc.

How long does it take to see results?

Some vessels may disappear during your treatment. Generally it takes about 3 weeks and in some cases 4 to 6 weeks.

What about sun exposure?

We recommend wearing an SPF 30 or higher if the area treated is exposed to the sun.

Can I exercise after?

We do not recommend exercising or taking a hot bath or going into a hot tub 24 to 48 hours after your treatment since this dilates the veins (causes them to enlarge).  It is better to avoid anything that dilates the veins.
