Dermamelan Depigmentation Program
Complimentary Consultation
Dermamelan Depigmentation Program is a great option for specific pigmentation (skin discolouration) problems that are difficult to treat. Dark skin and women with melasma (eg: from pregnancy) are two skin types that are very challenging to treat. These specific skin types are at increased risk for certain side effects with treatments like IPL (Intense Pulse Light). The main risk is hyper-pigmentation. However, they respond well to Dermamelan without significant risks. Fraxel Laser Treatments may also be appropriate as well. A personal consultation will allow us to suggest the appropriate treatment for you.
Side Effects of Dermamelan
With most treatments for hyperpigmentation, there may be some down time. With Fraxel, there are 2-3 days that the skin will be red and swollen, with peeling sometimes following. With IPL, although there is generally little redness, the pigment that lifts will crust over (like little coffee grounds) for up to 10 days. With Dermamelan, the skin will be red and dry for several days, followed by peeling and dryness. Proper home care will help to alleviate most of the dehydration and/ or irritation. We educate you so you know fully what to expect with your treatment. We find that people who are bothered by their pigmentation feel that the results are well worth any down time associated with any of these procedures.
How Does Dermamelan Work?
Dermamelan Depigmentation Program is based on the inhibition of tyrosinase, a basic enzyme in the melanin formation process. The active ingredients in the Dermamelan treatment act by blocking this enzyme, or even by inverting the metabolic process of the transformation chain. As a physician-directed clinic, we can choose this safe, effective method of reducing hyperpigmentation (melasma), acne scarring, and brown spots due to sun damage. This treatment also works very well in conjunction with IPL (Photorejuvenation) in fair-skinned individuals. With dark skin, IPL is not recommended.
What to Expect with Dermamelan
Results with Dermamelan may take up to 6-8 weeks for full effect, although a noticeable improvement may be seen with some individuals in as early as a few short weeks. The treatment consists of two phases. The first part of the treatment takes place in our medical clinic. A mask is applied that stays on for 8-10 hours, so you will be going home with this mask. Please drive here or arrange for a ride as you may not want to take public transportation home (it looks like a mud mask). The second phase involves an at-home skin care program. This at-home program is necessary for the treatment to work to its optimal potential. The initial two weeks involve application of products 2-3 times a day. After that, once a day daily creams is all that is required to maintain your results. It is recommended to use the at-home maintenance products for at least 12 months after the initial treatment for optimal results.
In addition to the significant reduction in their pigmentation, clients often rave about how great their skin looks. There is a noticeable glow to the skin and it looks healthy and vibrant.
